The Scaligeri were impressed by his World Cup performances and believe the 35-year-old can still make his mark at the Stadio Bentegodi.

“Marquez? I have many dreams, then I wake up…” director of sport Sean Sogliano told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’ll see. We will certainly make more moves on the transfer market, but we need patience.”

Marquez is currently plying his trade for Mexican club Leon, but at his age is eager to test himself one last time in a top League.

He played for Barcelona and had already been linked with Fiorentina and Juventus in 2009, but opted for NY Bulls instead and joined Leon in January 2013.

Verona have already shown their ability to revive the careers of veterans, as 37-year-old Luca Toni scored 20 Serie A goals in 34 games last season.
