Andrea Mandorlini believes Verona deserved a point at Cesena but has demanded his players stop making life so difficult for themselves.

The Gialloblu fell behind early on at the Dino Manuzzi but eventually salvaged a 1-1 draw thanks to Juanito Gomez’s equaliser, and the Coach admits his players are their own worst enemies.

“We took the wrong approach because we knew we had to win the match,” Mandorlini told reporters after tonight’s match.

“Unfortunately, we conceded an avoidable goal and paid for it on a psychological level.

“Then we lifted ourselves and there was a response in the second half. I’m happy with my players, and I think we deserved the draw for how it came about.

“Our problem, if I may say so, is that too often we stay at a disadvantage because we create chances, even if we don’t score a lot.”

On the topic of Luca Toni’s demotion to the substitutes’ bench, Mandorlini explained: “Nene? He played the game he had to play. He's a player who sacrifices himself and fights forever.

“I dropped Toni because he’s no longer a young man, but he’s quiet because he plays 99 per cent of the games.

“At San Siro, he’ll be back, and I hope that he can find the path to goal.”
