Pierluigi Gollini has recalled how Verona fans threw eggs at him and his teammates during the course of last season.
The Scaligeri endured a dreadful Serie A campaign in 2015-16, failing to win a single game in the first half of the season and suffering relegation.
“We flew back from a 3-0 defeat at Napoli and they turned up at the airport to throw eggs at us!” Gollini, who has since signed for English Championship side Aston Villa, told reporters.

“We had a few visits during the season when groups of fans would turn up at the training ground to let us know they weren’t satisfied.
“But in Italy that’s normal. I can handle eggs. In Italy you are only really in trouble when they start throwing stones at you!”
