Hellas Verona are leading the race to secure former Lecce coach Marco Baroni, although they face competition from Spezia and a few internal problems too.

Baroni surprisingly parted company with Lecce this summer after taking them to the Serie B title last year, then keeping them in Serie A with a couple of games to spare.

He is now hot property as a free agent and has been approached by two sides, both of whom played the relegation play-off.

Verona won that game and look likely to win this race as well, so Spezia are looking towards Daniele De Rossi and Massimiliano Alvini, amongst others.

However, Sportitalia point out that Hellas do have a few issues to resolve before they can hire Baroni.

Specifically, their co-coach Salvatore Bocchetti, who has for the last six months been working alongside Marco Zaffaroni due to the lack of coaching badges.

He can now take the main job, so Verona must decide between promoting Bocchetti and changing everything with Baroni.
