Hellas Verona deny they are under investigation for tax fraud insisting there have been no searches at the club’s headquarters, but they ‘spontaneously’ provided documents related to a sponsorship deal.
Several sources in Italy, including Gazzetta and ANSA, claimed Wednesday morning that Verona and their President Maurizio Setti had been put under investigation for suspected tax fraud.
The Gialloblu clarified their position with an official statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“The Guardia di Finanza is investigating a third-party company and not Hellas Verona,” the club said.
“There have been no searches at the club’s headquarters or elsewhere.
“The club spontaneously provided their financial documents related to rapports with the company mentioned above, which consist of only three invoices from four years ago. The complaint is still being verified and could be worth circa €50,000.
“In any case, we categorically rule out that the object of fiscal documents are related to sponsorship deals, which nobody ever mentioned.”
