Verona have announced Igor Tudor has left his position as head coach by mutual consent.

The former Juventus centre-back was hired in September 2021 following the dismissal of Eusebio Di Francesco after three defeats to open the campaign.

And Tudor saw a remarkable turnaround which resulted in Verona finishing the campaign in ninth place.

A statement from Tudor read: “A difficult decision because at Verona I found a working atmosphere as well as a fantastic group of players and men who helped me create a perfect symphony with the club, thanks to which we achieved extraordinary results.

“I reflected at length, discussing [my thoughts] with the president, whose frankness and transparency in explaining the plans for next season I appreciated, but both agreed there weren’t all of the prerequisites required to continue together on the same road.

“In view of this, it is right that we each go our own way. An affectionate goodbye to the city Verona, where I was very happy and a hug to all the fans who treated me with affection and warmth.

“And the best of luck to Hellas Verona for the future.”

Tudor took over a Verona side bottom of the table with three defeats from their first three matches but kick off his reign with a 3-2 win over  Roma – the first defeat as manager of the Giallorossi for Jose Mourinho.

Verona also registered wins against Lazio and Juventus as they even flirted with qualification for European football.

This was Tudor’s second management role in Serie A, having previously been coach of Udinese from 2018 to 2019.

As a player, the former Croatia defender won two Serie A titles with Juventus.

Gazzetta dello Sport report Verona will target Udinese coach Gabriele Cioffi as Tudor’s replacement.

  1. I suppose it all comes down to budgets, at the end of each season they have to sell there best players. Tudor knows that it will nearly impossible to match this seasons achievements, especially with Caprari and Simeone going back to the parent clubs and Barak being sold.
