Today tests confirmed the presence of a "swelling" in the soleus muscle, believed to be a bruise, and Roma medics noted it had to be “evaluated on a day by day basis.”
It means Vermaelen is a major doubt to feature in the first Serie A game of 2017 against Genoa this weekend.
