Jordan Veretout’s wife tested positive for COVID and had her birthday party anyway, but insists the Roma midfielder ‘will return to training tomorrow.’

It remains to be seen if the club will allow him to participate in the session with his teammates or even enter the training ground.

Sabrina Veretout caused controversy when announcing on social media that she had tested positive for COVID-19, but it wasn’t going to ‘ruin’ her birthday.

A party in Monte Carlo went ahead anyway with many guests, including the Roma player.

Veretout under fire after attending COVID-positive wife’s birthday party

“We had been in Monte Carlo for a few days, with people who came from all over France and those who were working at the event,” Sabrina told FirenzeViola.it.

“On Saturday I tested positive for COVID, as did one other person, but by that stage we were already all together.

“I gave everyone the choice to leave if they wanted to, but they all insisted on staying and joining the party.

“We are fine, Jordan tested negative and will return to training tomorrow. I will return to Rome with the kids too, but I will obviously rent an ad hoc car just for us.”

COVID-19 is a particularly insidious disease precisely because it has a long incubation period, which can be up to 14 days.

This is why people are urged to self-isolate for several days after they have been in contact with someone who tested positive.

Self-isolation rules vary now from nation to nation, but it seems improbable that Roma will simply let Veretout back into the squad so soon after attending a party with two people testing positive.
