Fiorentina defender Lorenzo Venuti took to his official Instagram account to thank La Viola fans but also his critics following his late own goal against Juventus.

Juventus only had one shot on target at the Artemio Franchi last night but managed to win the first leg of the Coppa Italia semis against Fiorentina thanks to a late own goal of the Italy defender. The 26-year-old broke into tears and was comforted by Dusan Vlahovic after the final whistle.

“I had dreamed of a different end, because I cared too much, for my teammates, for the club, for Florence and the Florentines,” Venuti wrote on Instagram.

“But fate had other plans and wanted it to end this way. But no drama because the real problems are others, unfortunately.

“The truth is, tonight we saw a team that showed everyone what it means to play football. They/we are not perfect, I/ we have limits. It’s true, but we will immediately work to improve and fix them as we’ve always done to take back what destiny took away from us.

“Thanks to all the Florentines for the support before and after the match… tonight you won. Also, thanks to those who criticize because you are an extra incentive to improve and make you bite your tongue.”
