Giampiero Ventura has confessed that he would not take the Italy job again. “I need daily contact with the players.”
Ventura was sacked after he oversaw Italy’s first World Cup no-show for 60 years, and the former Torino Coach likened his experience of feeling ‘undermined’ to Jorge Sampaoli, who suffered the same fate for Argentina’s poor campaign in Russia.
“I’d change everything that happened after the match against Spain. Then something unimaginable happened,” he continued to RMC Sport.

“[There were] a thousand mistakes on my part. I didn’t read what was happening. Until the Spain game, I was enjoying myself and it had been a happy experience.
“I’d probably make less mistakes [if I could go back] and I wouldn’t take the job. It wasn’t the job for me.
“I need daily contact with the players. The insults hurt, but I’ve dusted myself off, with the desire to pick up from where I left off.
“Now I wish all the best to Mancini, who has players that can become the backbone of this national team for years to come.
“I have no resentment towards the national team, only for what could’ve been and what wasn’t.
“I felt undermined, like Sampaoli did with Argentina. I wasn’t surprised that he left so quickly. I hope Italy return to the top soon.”
