Giampiero Ventura says it's time for Torino to choose their destiny, whilst slamming inexperienced Coaches.

There are rumours that the seasoned tactician may move to a different team after the summer, but a solid campaign that sees the Granata firmly in ninth place and able to boast a Last-16 Europa League round may persuade him to stay.

“We worked hard to get where we are,” he told Il Corriere della Sera.

“It was a four-year plan that started with some 10 supporters that glared at us in our training camps in Sappada and which culminated with the thousands of people waiting for us at Caselle, after the historic victory at San Mamés [3-2 against Athletic Bilbao].

“Now it's down to us whether to rest on our laurels after what we've done, which is a lot, or whether we should take this as a starting point to build something else. Time will tell.”

President Urbano Cairo already stated his appreciation for Ventura by declaring he expects the Coach to stay.

“I have a relationship of great honesty and esteem with Cairo, and I think that's reciprocal.

“I believe I've given him something and I received something from him in return, on a human level too.”

The 67-year-old was then asked why he had never coached a major team in his extensive career.

“People don't understand that ideas have no age,” he said. “You can have good ideas even when you're no longer young, and you can be old inside even when you're a kid.

“In brief, someone who is young isn't always good, and someone who is old isn't always worthless.

“When I started coaching, the trend was in favour of wise, experienced men like [Carlo] Mazzone, today it's all about giving a bench to players who retired last year.”
