Giampiero Ventura said Ciro Immobile “has brought the smile back” to Torino after their 1-1 draw at Sassuolo.

The Week 16 game was originally called off due to thick fog last month.

“Sassuolo put in great performances against Inter and Napoli, so the fact we caused them so many problems shows we’re back to being a team,” Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

The Week 16 game was originally called off due to thick fog last month.

“Sassuolo put in great performances against Inter and Napoli, so the fact we caused them so many problems shows we’re back to being a team,” Ventura told Sky Sport Italia.

“If we had gone 2-0 up before the break it would’ve been even better, but this remains an important evening for us.

“Ciro’s return has brought the smile back to the locker room and the stands. He also brought substance and his work rate. We’ve got the opportunity to pick up where we left off.”

Maxi Lopez has been dropped amid reports he put on too much weight during the Christmas break.

“Maxi has had some difficult years. He arrived here with desire and was important, but this season had a few more difficulties. He cannot be a bit-part player, as someone with his career and capabilities must be a protagonist.

“He will be given time and we’ve been waiting for months, but I hope he’s realised the road back to his best self is at Torino. We all care for him here.”
