Giampiero Ventura believes the current Torino team is “the strongest ever built by Urbano Cairo”.

The former Italy CT took the Granata into the Europa League in his time on the bench, but he believes Walter Mazzarri has an even better squad.

“I love Toro and their fans,” Ventura began, speaking to Corriere di Torino.

“The national team is a CLOSED chapter for me, write that in capital letters. I don’t talk about it anymore, and I won’t talk about it. I’m looking forward.

“This is the strongest Toro ever built by Cairo, he and sporting director [Gianluca] Petrachi did a great job.

“The team is strong, well-balanced, with quality youngsters on which I think other clubs should have the courage to gamble.

“Then the arrivals of [Simone] Zaza and [Roberto] Soriano at the end will give added value.

“Against Rome I saw an organised and determined team, I think it was one incident which decided it, and of course the shot by an exceptional goalscorer like [Edin] Dzeko.”

Ventura also reiterated that he still wants to return to work.

“More than before, whether it’s in Italy or abroad. To be clear, I’m not just waiting around for the first Serie A bench that comes up.

“There are interesting projects, clubs that really want to focus on young people, roles to be discovered.

“I’m listening and evaluating with the energy of a child.”
