Ventura became public enemy in Italy following their failure to qualify for the Russian showpiece, and the 70-year-old revealed just how personally he took the Azzurri’s elimination.
“After Italy-Sweden, I stopped going to Ikea,” he continued to Radio Anch’io Sport.
“It’s difficult to dispose of the disappointment. What happened was something era-defining.

“However, it’s a page I’ve turned. Now I want to write a new one. I was always taught that in football, you win as 11 and lose as 11.
“I’m a person with a clear and professional conscience. Tavecchio? I never heard from him again and I’ll leave it there.”
