The Flying Donkeys have suffered seven consecutive defeats, falling 2-0 at home to Sassuolo this afternoon, including a comical Emanuele Giaccherini own goal.

“I want to start off by saying that I am happy,” said the former Italy Coach in his Press conference.

“I understand that I might seem demented saying that after three consecutive defeats under my tenure, but I have to look beyond the results and evaluate the performances. I say that I’m satisfied with the performances.

“We never really felt under pressure from Sassuolo and their opening goal was a fluke occurrence. In the second half, we raised the intensity level and for at least 70 minutes played on a par with Sassuolo, a side that made big investments over the summer.

“We still need to get to know ourselves and what we want to achieve this season. If we manage to achieve safety with this group of young players, then it’s a great sign for the future of Chievo.

“My job is to put this team in a condition to win games and we saw those conditions today against Sassuolo. I saw an improved performance.

“If we need to go through more defeats in order to reach the level we want with this team, then we’re just going to have to deal with it. This is the path and we must stay on it.”
