“I am not nervous or agitated, but excited by the idea of the challenge, of putting myself out there again,” said Ventura in his Press conference.

“I want to achieve safety for Chievo, for the city and for me. We are working on all the errors made in the past and this game is not a crossroads for the season, but a chance to rediscover our motivation, our attitude and performance. We can still be protagonists and those who care about Chievo will do everything to achieve that.

“I can see the desire to believe and put into practice all that we’ve worked on in training. In just seven days, we’ve realised our strengths, weaknesses and capabilities.”

Chievo are rock bottom, especially as they started from -3 due to false accounting and are currently on -1 points, but today’s opponents Atalanta are also floundering.

“We know that Atalanta are tough cookies and have been improving year on year, even if over the last month or so they’ve run into difficulties.

“In a way, we’re meeting them at the worst possible moment, because they are going to be so strongly motivated to climb out of their current hole.”

Emanuele Giaccherini, Nenad Tomovic, Filip Djordjevic, Joel Obi and Fabrizio Cacciatore are all out injured.

Chievo squad for Atalanta: Seculin, Semper, Sorrentino; Bani, Barba, Cesar, Depaoli, Jaroszynski, Rossettini; Birsa, Burruchaga, Hetemaj, Kiyine, Radovanovic, Rigoni; Leris, Meggiorini, Pellissier, Pucciarelli, Stepinski
