Conte led the Azzurri to Euro 2016, but announced before the tournament that he’d be leaving to join the English Premier League club.
Ventura was quickly confirmed as his replacement, and will make his debut against France on Thursday.
“Conte? He had a great Euros,” Ventura acknowledged in a Press conference today.

“I want to give continuity to Antonio’s project. If I follow his path, then I know where to go in two years – to Chelsea!
“It’s extremely challenging to take up his mantle.”
Ventura also discussed his approach, simultaneously promising fun and discipline from his Azzurri.
“For a national team, what matters most is the result. If the result comes after a good performance then so much the better.
“Winning isn’t an objective, it’s a consequence of what you do on the pitch. I’d like to see a team which has fun on the pitch, when a team has fun then results come too.
“Rules? I am logical with rules, if someone doesn’t respect the rules then they don’t deserve to stay in the national team.”
