Venezia director Filippo Antonelli confirms they too have lost patience with Tanner Tessmann, who torpedoed transfers to Inter and Fiorentina. ‘He is out of our project. I’m sorry he put himself into this situation.’

The USMNT midfielder had been one of the hottest properties on the Serie A transfer market after helping the Lagunari achieve promotion via the play-offs.

The club had agreed a deal with Inter, only for it to fall apart reportedly due to his demands, then the same thing happened with Fiorentina as well.

Now he risks being stuck in the stands with fewer and fewer clubs prepared to go for him in these circumstances.

“Tessmann is out of our project at Venezia,” director of sport Antonelli told Il Gazzettino newspaper.

“It has been a difficult week, try to understand me here. I am above all sorry for the player, as he put himself into this situation. At this moment, he is off the list of players at the disposal of coach Eusebio Di Francesco, but that is his decision and does not depend on us.

“He continues to train with the rest of the squad, but his mind at this moment is just not there. Our approach to Serie A has not changed, we prefer to have players who are strongly motivated to play with the Venezia jersey and fully committed to our project, otherwise it’s better to get someone else.”

Tessmann future up in the air

Antonelli was asked if there was some possibility that Tessmann could resolve his differences with Venezia and continue on there this season.

“We’ll see, anything is possible. If the transfer window closes and Venezia is the only remaining option, then we’d have to evaluate what to do, but he would need to roll his sleeves up and get back with a completely different attitude.”

The reports have suggested the ‘demands’ made were not so much over personal terms or salary, but rather he wanted a guarantee of regular playing time, something the clubs could not commit to.

With Inter, the plan had been to loan him out to another team, but there were disagreements over who he would accept in that situation.

Tessmann turns 23 in September and moved from FC Dallas to Venezia in 2021 for €3.64m.

He has two senior caps for the USMNT squad and has been linked with numerous teams this summer, including Napoli, Roma, Brentford, Celtic, Everton and Feyenoord.

  1. He thinks hes way better than he actually is. The Olympics showed that he was overmatched at a higher level especially against Morocco.
