Venezia promised legal action against fellow Serie B club Empoli, as it’s claimed coach Alessio Dionisi is under contract with both of them.
Dionisi was on the Venezia bench for the 2019-20 season and, after the Lagunari announced Paolo Zanetti was their new coach, Dionisi signed for Empoli.
Now Venezia have released an angry statement from President Duncan Neiderauer, promising ‘legal action’ over the situation.

Now Venezia have released an angry statement from President Duncan Neiderauer, promising ‘legal action’ over the situation.
“Empoli declared they have signed a contract with a coach who is currently contractually tied to our club, without having received any authorisation from Venezia FC.
“I want to underline that the club I lead would never behave this way. When we found ourselves in a similar situation last summer, we contacted Imolese Calcio beforehand to request authorisation for a contractual offer to Mr Dionisi, so he would not violate any contractual obligations with his club at that time.
“We have repeatedly told Mr Dionisi that we are ready to release him from his contract, as long as Empoli gave a correct valuation to the existing contract and the consequences for our club of terminating it.
“It has been insinuated that Venezia FC cannot continue to sustain the costs of two coaches and their staff for the 2020-21 season. Nothing could be further from the truth, as it’s a possibility we considered from the start and a risk we were prepared to take.”
