Venezia secured a 1-0 win over Cremonese on Sunday night, becoming the third team to earn Serie A promotion in 2023-24.

The Lagunari are back in Italy’s top flight after two years. They won the Serie B playoffs, beating Cremonese 1-0 on aggregate.

The first leg in Cremona had ended 0-0 three days ago, but Paolo Vanoli’s side secured a 1-0 win at home tonight, thanks to a goal from Christian Gytkjær in the first half.

Venezia are third team promoted to Serie A

Even a draw was enough for Venezia to beat the Grigiorossi and secure promotion, given that they had finished higher up the table during the regular season.

Venezia finished third with 70 points, three more than fourth-placed Cremonese.

Parma and Como had already earned promotion to Serie A, finishing first and second, respectively.

Venezia were relegated to Serie B in the 2021-22 campaign, finishing at the bottom of the Serie A table with 27 points.

Their promotion means that foreigners will own 50% of clubs in Italy’s top flight next season.
