Venezia and Foggia released conflicting statements after their Presidents brawled in the stands following a Serie B game.

Last night’s 2-2 draw was a dramatic affair, as hosts Foggia were 2-0 down until the 87th minute and staged a last-gasp comeback.

Following that equaliser, Foggia President Franco Sannella and Venezia patron Joe Tacopina had a physical altercation in the stands, including pushing, shoving and slaps.

Venezia released a statement claiming “at the Foggia equaliser, our director general Dante Scililia was unjustifiably attacked by people linked with the Foggia Calcio club, falling down to the lower row.

“At that point, President Tacopina intervened to defend our director, trying to stop and contrast those people who attacked him.

“Scibilia was immediately tended to by local ambulance staff and later escorted to the locker room by the police. What happened at the Stadio Zaccheria is unacceptable and must be firmly condemned. Venezia FC are ready to take legal action.”

Foggia also released a statement with a very different version of the events.

“Too much joy, but no brawl. Foggia Calcio deny reports speaking of a brawl at the end of the game between Foggia patron Franco Sannella and Venezia President Joe Tacopina.

“The Rossoneri euphoria at the equaliser created a great deal of confusion in the stands, provoking an accidental fall, but no brawl between the directors of the two clubs.

“Foggia Calcio reaffirm the admiration, friendship and fondness for Venezia, their Coach, the club and fans.”
