Veiga agent explains why Napoli deal collapsed

Pini Zahavi, the agent of Gabri Veiga, explained why Napoli’s deal with Celta Vigo collapsed, allowing Al-Ahli to emerge.

Reports last week suggested that the Partenopei had agreed a deal for the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder, a €30m purchase with €6m in add-ons, and were in the process of agreeing personal terms with the talent.

Things suddenly changed over the weekend, giving Al-Ahli space to quickly agree terms with Veiga, who is now seemingly ready to complete his transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Speaking via Calciomercato.com, Zahavi provided an update on Veiga’s situation and why things went wrong with Napoli.

“Napoli did not want to pay Gabri Veiga’s release clause. The agreement with Al-Ahli is not closed yet, but we’ll keep talking.”

The 21-year-old Spanish talent’s decision to make the jump to Saudi Arabia has not gone down well with onlookers, including Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos, who called the move “embarrassing” on social media.

Napoli are now on the hunt for a new midfielder, keen to bolster Rudi Garcia’s squad before the end of the summer transfer window.
