Matias Vecino has been called up for Lazio’s match with Hellas Verona after his exclusion for reported disciplinary issues.

The 32-year-old midfielder was not included in the Biancocelesti’s squad for their 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Genoa on Tuesday, despite being fully fit. He posted an Instagram story before the match, challenging accusations that he’d been disrespectful to the club’s staff.

Later reports noted that Vecino had a heated argument with coach Maurizio Sarri in the dressing rooms in Formello, unhappy with his brief cameo appearance in the win over Cagliari on the weekend.

As highlighted by Gianluca Di Marzio, Vecino will be part of the Lazio squad for their trip to Hellas Verona on Saturday, having apologised to Sarri and his teammates for his behaviour.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who played under Sarri at Empoli back in the 2014-15 season, has proven himself a useful and reliable option in the Italian capital since his arrival last year.

This season, Vecino has scored three goals across 15 total appearances for Lazio, seeing 620 minutes of action. He was the team’s man of the match in their 2-1 win over Celtic in the Champions League on October 4.
