Former Inter midfielder Matias Vecino has agreed a contract with Lazio, making the move as a free agent, so he can reunite with Maurizio Sarri.

Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia and others all confirm today’s meeting was successful in reaching an agreement.

He will have his medical and then put pen to paper on the contract to June 2025.

The Uruguay international turns 31 next month and had been at Inter since 2017, but his contract expired on June 30.

It is a reunion with Sarri, as he already worked with the coach at Empoli in 2014-15.

Vecino spent most of his career in Italy, first leaving Nacional for Fiorentina in January 2013.

There were also spells at Cagliari and Empoli before the €24m sale to Inter in August 2017.

The South American made only 23 appearances for Inter throughout last season, but did score one goal in the 6-1 Serie A victory over Bologna in September 2021.
