Palermo forward Franco Vazquez says he’d play for Italy if Antonio Conte called him up for the Azzurri.

The Argentinian-born 25-year-old holds Italian citizenship, with his mother having been born in Padua, and would be eligible for the national team.

“I know it’s difficult to wear the Argentina shirt,” Vazquez told Sky.

“But if Conte were to call me I’d say yes to the Azzurri.”

The former Belgrano player also revealed he’s close to signing an extension with Palermo – but admits he wants to play in the Champions League one day.

“We’re close to an agreement. I have to wait for my agent to come to Italy, then the renewal will definitely come.

“I’m just thinking about doing well throughout the season with Palermo. As I said, the renewal is close, and I’m focused on working to finish the League in the best way possible.

“Then in the summer, we’ll see. My aim, however, is to play in the Champions League one day, it’s the biggest achievement for any player.”
