Genoa midfielder Juan Manuel Vargas has admitted he left Fiorentina this summer because he lacked motivation at the club.

The 28-year-old winger has explained why his time with the Viola came to an end in an interview with Peruvian newspaper El Comercio.

“I wanted to leave, I had lost all motivation,” said the former Catania man. “I decided to change clubs because I wanted to try and renew my career.

“I would never do anything that would put at risk my presence in the national team.”
