Raphael Varane has already met up with his new coach and teammates at their pre-season training camp in Austria, ahead of an official announcement, which is expected to arrive at the beginning of the coming week.

Varane one step away from Como announcement

Como are expected to make an official announcement on Monday.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United centre-back will join Cesc Fabregas’s side on a free transfer following the expiry of his three-year deal at Old Trafford at the end of June.

He has already agreed a package on personal terms, and is expected to sign a two-year deal with the option of a third.

It is a move that has certain similarities to the transfer of Varane’s 2018 World Cup centre-back partner Samuel Umtiti, who moved to Lecce in 2022-23.

Varane follows former Liverpool veterans Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno in joining the exciting Como project this summer. The club have also announced deals for Andrea Belotti, Albert Dossena, Ali Jasim and Luca Mazzitelli on loan from Frosinone.
