VAR’s wrong call in JuventusSalernitana seems to be nobody’s fault as VAR and referee won’t be suspended while President Gabriele Gravina said: ‘it’s not a scandal; everyone should calm down.’

Juventus have faced sanctions following their controversial 2-2 draw against Salernitana on Sunday. The Bianconeri thought they had completed a memorable comeback with Arek Milik’s late winner, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR check which turned out to be wrong.

The video assistant referee hadn’t spotted Antonio Candreva playing everyone onside on the bottom left, so Milik’s goal was ruled out with Leonardo Bonucci involved in active play.

Milik celebrated his goal by taking his shirt off, receiving a second yellow card, while Max Allegri and Juan Cuadrado were sent off for dissent and will miss the next match with Monza.

Cuadrado was also fined €5,000 and Allegri €15,000.

The Bianconeri seem to be the only ones facing sanctions as FIGC and AIA have admitted the error but refused to blame either the referee or Luca Banti, who was in charge of VAR on Sunday.

“The image showed after the game was not at our disposal,” President Gravina told Sportmediaset today.

“Unfortunately, referees didn’t spot the error, but neither VAR nor referees made a mistake. It’s not a scandal. Everyone should calm down.”

Reports in Italy suggest neither Banti nor referee  Matteo Marcenaro will be suspended.

“With regard to the Juventus-Salernitana incident, a video released at the end of the match, first on the web and then taken up by many media outlets,” AIA said in a statement on Monday.

“The technical body of CAN has viewed all the images made available by VAR for the match in question, finding no correspondence with the video in question.

“The technical body of CAN also expressly asked the company that provides the technological service for VAR if the camera in question, defined as tactical, was available to the VAR officials for the match played at the Juventus Stadium.

“The answer that was given was that the camera was not available to VAR and therefore could not be used by the referees. With this, we are convinced that we have clarified the incident.”

  1. The linesman kept his flag down because he saw Candreva but why did he not tell that to anyone ? Please give med the audio from him. If the kept his mouth shot he is to blame. If not. Clean up the VAR system.
