Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu broke the deadlock from the spot in the first half against Juventus following five minutes of pure madness. Here’s what happened at the Allianz Stadium.

Massimiliano Irrati awarded a penalty kick to the Nerazzurri for a foul of Alvaro Morata on Denzel Dumfries. The referee needed a VAR check to spot Morata’s touch on the Netherland international’s right foot.

Calhanoglu saw Wojciech Szczesny save his penalty kick, but the ball somehow crossed the line on the rebound. Irrati saw a debatable foul from an Inter player and stopped play. The Nerazzurri were furious and protested against the match official who, after a lengthy conversation with VAR referees, decided that the penalty had to be retaken.

Allegri rages during Juventus vs. Inter

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri could not hide his frustration and threw his jacket on the floor while staring at the fourth official.

Replays showed that Matthijs de Ligt had entered the box before Calhanoglu touched the ball. The Dutch defender was the first to get on the rebound after Szczesny’s save. Calhanoglu didn’t miss the second penalty kick, giving the lead to the Nerazzurri before the break.

  1. still, it will not help printer to win the Scudetto, as they are known to be experts in messing up at the end of the season

  2. Juve fans arguing that they were robbed blind. Lmfao. Now you know how the rest of serie a Teams have felt during the past 9 seasons that you stole trophies from them.

  3. It was a clear penalty but there was no need for a re-take as the ball was in the back of the net, and no, there was no ‘foul’ by an Inter player.

That was just a way for the ref to lessen the scrutiny, as it would look like he had not only awarded Inter a penalty, but a goal, if he allowed the own goal to stand (which he should have).

The game was dirty and Inter did not attack well. But it has to be admitted that even with a very poor Handa in goal, Inter defended very well, primarily Skriniar, but some clutch moments from D’Ambrosio and Bastoni as well.

Inter needs depth in midfield as Barella just looks a shadow of his former self at the moment. He needs a long rest, and more rotation next season.

Also, Inzaghi can just get out. Did a terrible job with tactics and subs today.

  4. To day, no matter how we twist & turn it De Ligt cost Juve the draw (the might not have won but then nobody would) in his penalty bloobers.

  5. The bigger picture shows how poor standards in the farmer leagues has dropped. It would be better for Serie a and Italy to employ foreign referees. It was a pen and the second was also a pen. Stick a foot out and you ask for trouble. Also when Marotta is there in attendance what did you think was going to happen.

How about providing some examples, in the era of VAR, where Juventus stole trophies from other teams.
Because the decision to not award a penalty for the Zakaria-Bastoni incident, and the Torino-Ranocchia incident, are going to get you a trophy at Milan/Napoli‘s expense. Who’s the real thief here?
    Moron.
