Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic had a goal disallowed in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16 against Freiburg after a VAR check, but he ended his goal drought shortly after by converting a penalty kick awarded with an on-field review.

The Bianconeri broke the deadlock in Freiburg minutes before the half time break, cementing the one-goal lead earned in the first leg in Turin last week.

Vlahovic first found the net at minute 27, but it was disallowed after a VAR check. Gleison Bremer’s header was palmed onto the crossbar, and Moise Kean knocked it down for the Serbia international, who was off-side, having only one Freiburg player behind him. However, a silent VAR review was necessary to notice his position.

There was a second VAR check, this time an on-field review, at minute 42 when Federico Gatti’s shot was charged down by Manuel Gulde’s arm. Clear penalty which led to a second yellow card for the German defender.

Vlahovic converted from the spot, scoring his first goal in more than a month.
