Italy boss Giampiero Ventura claims video assistance would have given Sulley Muntari’s ‘ghost goal’ against Juventus and “changed Serie A history”.

Muntari’s header during Milan’s 1-1 draw with Juve in February 2012 was disallowed, despite the ball crossing the line by a foot.

The Bianconeri went on to pip the Diavolo to the Scudetto by four points that season, and Ventura found the incident a perfect justification for VAR.

The Bianconeri went on to pip the Diavolo to the Scudetto by four points that season, and Ventura found the incident a perfect justification for VAR.

“VAR is something absolutely positive and critical to solving controversial incidents,” the CT was quoted as saying by Tuttosport from the Azzurri’s Coverciano base.

“If it had been applied on, for example, the famous Muntari goal, it would’ve changed Serie A history.

“But, as with all innovations, it needs time, since football must be continuous and have continuity.

“I don’t agree that it should be the referee on the pitch to review the images.”
