The VAR audio from Inter‘s goal against Genoa, with a potential Yann Aurel Bisseck foul in the build-up, has been released by DAZN but Gianluca Rocchi’s assistant Andrea Gervasoni said it should have been reviewed at the pitchside monitor.

DAZN released the VAR audio from Inter’s controversial goal against Genoa in Round 19. Marko Arnautovic gave the Nerazzurri the lead before the break, but it could have been disallowed for a Bisseck push on Kevin Strootman in the build-up.

VAR official Massimiliano Irrati reviewed the incident while Genoa players protested referee Daniele Doveri on the pitch. Irrati was heard saying: “Let me see this possible push; give me another angle….no, this one, no.”

Inter’s attack continued and Irrati checked if Nicolò Barella had touched the ball with his arm and if Arnautovic was offside.

“Let’s check. This is not a handball. There is no handball here. Now let’s see if somebody was offside. Can you also give me a camera to see if that was a handball? No, leg. Dani, Massi, the goal is valid. You can resume play.”

Rocchi’s assistant, Gervasoni, was in the DAZN studio on Sunday night to comment on Irrati and Doveri’s decision but admitted the referee should have watched the potential Bisseck foul at the pitchside monitor.

“This season, we disallowed a goal in VeronaLazio for a similar incident, with a VAR check. Nicolò Casale had pushed the opponent with two arms, and we said these incidents should always be checked as they could be punishable offences.

“Probably, Massimiliano [Irrati] saw it as a light push, but as a commission, we thought that in order to be coherent and transparent, the referee should always review a push with two arms. So, in this case, the referee should have checked the incident at the pitchside screen, and I think he would have decided to disallow the goal.”

Nevertheless, Gervasoni confirmed his trust in the “experienced” Irrati, who is regarded as the best VAR official in Italy, and said the 44-year-old worked “really well technically.”

Gervasoni also said Inter should have had another goal disallowed last week, when Alessandro Bastoni elbowed Hellas Verona‘s defender Ondrej Duda, prior to Davide Frattesi’s late winner.
