Whilst Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel denies a deal is in place to join Roma, the Dutch full-back has still left the door open for a potential move this summer.
Several reports in Italy are suggesting that the Giallorossi have targeted the 24-year-old right-sided full-back, who is a former teammate of current Roma ‘keeper Maarten Stekelenburg. Il Romanista even alleged on Monday evening that a deal to sign the defender from Ajax is already in place for the summer.
Whilst the player has said otherwise on this latter claim in a quick address to the media on Monday, he has not ruled out a departure from the newly-crowned Dutch champions this coming transfer window.
“No team has given evidence that they want to sign me, so I do not know where I’ll be playing next season.
“I’ve not said goodbye to Ajax yet, but my only thoughts now are on the European Championships.”
