Marco Van Basten believes Milan have everything they need in order to return to former glories.

The Dutchman enjoyed a glittering career with the Rossoneri, winning four Serie A titles and two European Cups during an eight-year spell at San Siro.

“I am not following the Italian League much. Milan are no longer what they once were,” Van Basten admitted in an interview with Milan TV.

“When I was there Italian football dominated throughout the world, but it isn’t like that now.

“When I was there Italian football dominated throughout the world, but it isn’t like that now.

“Milan can become great again, they have everything to return to the top.”

The 51-year-old was then asked to state what he believes was Milan’s greatest victory under outgoing President Silvio Berlusconi.

“The best victory with Berlusconi was in the European Cup in 1989 in Barcelona. It was our dream and it was something marvellous.”

Van Basten has recently left the post of Assistant-coach with the Dutch national team in order to take up a role within FIFA.
