The illness has spread rapidly in northern Italy, particularly the Lombardy region, where both the club in Bergamo and their Champions League home stadium San Siro in Milan are based.

According to Tuttosport, Football-Espana.net and more, Valencia are considering a complete ban on fans travelling from Italy for the second leg on March 10.

Atalanta won the first leg 4-1 and Las Provincias report one of the journalists who attended that match at San Siro, 44-year-old Kike Mateu, was diagnosed with Coronavirus after returning to Spain.

“I am fine, I just have influenza symptoms and nothing more, but I thought it my duty to go to the doctor and get myself tested for Coronavirus, seeing as I had been in Milan,” said Mateu.

There have been over 500 cases in Italy, with 14 deaths, but all of the fatalities already had health issues that could’ve put them at risk even from a regular influenza.

Valencia could risk a UEFA sanction if they try to autonomously ban Atalanta supporters from travelling to the Mestalla.
