Ecuador striker Enner Valencia has matched the record set by Italy’s Paolo Rossi, Portugal legend Eusebio and Oleg Salenko of Russia by scoring his team’s last six World Cup goals.
Valencia got the equaliser in today’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, having already found the net twice in the 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar.
This means Valencia has scored each of Ecuador’s last six World Cup goals, also bagging three at the 2018 tournament in Russia.
It is a remarkable run, but not unique, as he is only the fourth man to achieve this.
The first was Eusebio for Portugal in 1966, then Pablito Rossi did it for Italy on their way to triumph in 1982.
Salenko also made it six in a row for Russia in the 1994 World Cup.
