The former Empoli midfielder had been dropped in favour of Jorginho after a move to 4-3-3 tactics, but was crucial in today’s 2-0 Europa League victory.
“It was my European debut and I am happy to have picked up three points,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“I was in a difficult moment, but I continued working and am pleased with the performance tonight. My teammates helped me relax and it was a wonderful victory.
“Regardless of the tactical system, I think we have found solidity. I too am finding the right physical fitness and it’s always a little tough when settling into a new environment. I am on the right track and will continue working to prove I am ready to play for Napoli.”
Valdifiori assures he was not upset at being dropped by his former Empoli Coach Maurizio Sarri.
“Quite rightly the Coach looks at what happens on the field and if I am not playing well, it’s only fair that someone else plays. Napoli were interested in me even before choosing Sarri as their Coach, so that made me proud.”
