The Empoli playmaker seemed to be headed for Torino this summer, but since signing Maurizio Sarri as their new Coach, Napoli have hijacked the operation.

Valdifiori is now expected to have his medicals at Castelvolturno this morning, in order to complete a transfer deal worth €5.5m.

Speaking to Sportitalia, the 29-year-old could barely contain his excitement.

“This is a great opportunity for me,” he said. “It's among the most beautiful days in my life, I can't wait to enter Castelvolturno.

“I'd like to thank my agent for how he handled the negotiations.

“I'll give it my all on the pitch for this team. I can confirm I'll be with Napoli for four years.

“I haven't spoken with [President Aurelio] De Laurentiis yet, but I heard Sarri a few days ago and I congratulated myself with him.

“I hope to meet [Gonzalo] Higuain at Napoli. Only two years ago it would have been unthinkable for me to play side by side with him.

“He's not the only great player there. It's an honour for me to play with them.

“Right now I'm not thinking about the excitement of the San Paolo or the affection of the supporters.

“I'm happy and I want to experience these emotions day by day.

“I didn't make a decision between Napoli and Torino. I think it was destiny that took me to Napoli.”
