Yunus Musah is expected to start his first Milan game as a right wing-back, a role he has covered only a few times in his professional career, but where he has promising stats.

The 20-year-old is set to make his debut as a starter at San Siro against Hellas Verona today.

Stefano Pioli is expected to reshape the Rossoneri with a 3-4-3 formation and Musah deployed wide on the right wing.

It’s a rather unusual role for the American midfielder who has mostly played as a central midfielder so far in his career.

He did play some games on the right wing during his time at Valencia, but Musah has mainly been used as a central midfielder or a defensive midfielder by his former clubs and USMNT.

However, his stats as a right midfielder are pretty encouraging given that, as reported by Transfermarkt, he has scored three goals and delivered one assist in 24 games in that role.

Musah also showed interesting dribbling skills during Milan’s home Champions League game against Newcastle earlier this week, contributing to convincing Pioli to give him a chance as a right wing-back.
