The Uruguay squad is becoming a COVID-19 hotspot, with 12 positive cases including Luis Suarez and Diego Rossi, causing concern for Serie A players.

There are quite a few Serie A representatives in the Uruguay team taking part in 2022 World Cup qualifiers this week.

It is feared that with the cases continuing to rise, one of them could eventually be infected.

A statement released by the Uruguayan Federation confirmed seven new positive tests within the group, adding to the four previously identified.

They are players Diego Rossi, Luis Suarez, Alexis Rolin, Matias Viña and Rodrigo Munoz.

Also infected are team doctor Alberto Pan and press officer Matias Faral, plus members of the delegation Jorge Rey, Richard Lopez, Victor Britez and Emiliano Aguirre.

Among those currently on international duty with Uruguay are Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, Cagliari’s Diego Godin and Nahitan Nandez and Martin Caceres of Fiorentina.
