The Turkish international joined the Giallorossi in the summer, and he’s been a key player for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side in the second half of the season.

“I received an offer from Manchester City but I didn’t accept,” Under told Spor Arena Plus.

“Roma’s project and the attitude of the club was important for me, then with the sale of [Mohamed] Salah the team was more suited to my characteristics.

“As [sporting director] Monchi says, I can become important for the future of this team.

“As for Di Francesco, he’s an excellent Coach who gives a lot of importance to discipline and tactical work.

“He gives every player a chance, he trusts them and keeps rotating them. He always wants the best in training and we have a good relationship.”

Under joined in the summer, so he never got to play with Francesco Totti.

“One day I came out of the shower after a training session, and Monchi told me there was someone I had to meet.

“I went in and it was Totti, I was very emotional. I feel unlucky not to have played with him.”

Roma face Barcelona on Wednesday – though Under won’t play – and the youngster was asked about Lionel Messi.

“I grew up watching videos of him. I have respect for [Cristiano] Ronaldo, but Messi is the best in the world.”
