The number of new cases remained relatively stable on 593 out of 75,893 tests (0.78 per cent), but another 3,503 people were given the all-clear.
That means the total number of currently active COVID-19 cases in Italy plunged by 2,980 and is now under 50,000 (47,986).
Another 16 left intensive care, so only 489 remain, while there are 7,379 in hospital (-350) and 40,118 self-isolating at home with minor symptoms (-2,614).
As always, Lombardy remains the epicentre and is struggling to get a hold of the pandemic.
There were only 20 deaths in 24 hours, a very low figure for their usual standards, but another 382 positive cases out of 15,507 tests.
Only six regions registered more than 10 new cases over the last 24 hours: Lombardy (382), Emilia-Romagna (74), Piedmont (58), Lazio (21), Liguria (16) and Veneto (12).
