After yesterday’s slight bump up, the figures have again fallen all over the country, suggesting it was a blip in the pandemic curve.

Compared to Wednesday’s 117, there were 70 deaths registered from coronavirus.

The number of new cases remained relatively stable on 593 out of 75,893 tests (0.78 per cent), but another 3,503 people were given the all-clear.

That means the total number of currently active COVID-19 cases in Italy plunged by 2,980 and is now under 50,000 (47,986).

Another 16 left intensive care, so only 489 remain, while there are 7,379 in hospital (-350) and 40,118 self-isolating at home with minor symptoms (-2,614).

As always, Lombardy remains the epicentre and is struggling to get a hold of the pandemic.

There were only 20 deaths in 24 hours, a very low figure for their usual standards, but another 382 positive cases out of 15,507 tests.

Only six regions registered more than 10 new cases over the last 24 hours: Lombardy (382), Emilia-Romagna (74), Piedmont (58), Lazio (21), Liguria (16) and Veneto (12).
