Juventus youngster Matias Soule, currently on loan at Frosinone, has been included on Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni’s preliminary squad list for the upcoming international break according to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday afternoon.

The 20-year-old attacker is eligible to represent both Argentina and Italy through his citizenship, but remains uncapped by either nation at senior level.

Soule has previously represented Argentina at U16, U20 and U21 level and was handed his first call-up to the senior side in 2021, but was not included in any of the matchday squads on that occasion.

During the October international break, Italy CT Luciano Spalletti admitted that he and his team were ‘keeping a close eye’ on Soule, after an impressive start to life with Frosinone.

So far in 2023-24, Soule has notched five goals from his first eight Serie A appearances and has gained plenty of praise for his performances thus far.

Importantly, Argentina’s upcoming matches against Uruguay and Brazil are World Cup qualifiers. If Soule were to be handed his first cap, in a competitive fixture, Spalletti’s hopes of calling him up for Italy would be dealt a significant blow.

Elsewhere, Lazio striker Taty Castellanos is also expected to be included in Scaloni’s upcoming Argentina squad.

  1. Hopefully he get called up for Argentina. Oriundi need to stop bailing out Italian clubs over their reluctance to play Italian players. The 8 homegrown players rule needs to be increased to 12 (6 from the clubs’ academy and 6 from the other academy), but teams short for any quota could make it up by any Italian players groomed at any academy.

  2. Yea we shouldn’t be relying on Argentine or Brazilian players . He wouldn’t choose to play for Italy anyway
