Umtiti in tears after Lazio fans chant racist abuse

Lecce defender Samuel Umtiti was left emotional after Lazio fans chanted racist abuse at him and teammate Lameck Banda in yesterday’s 2-1 win.

The Puglian side fell behind in the first half of yesterday’s clash with the Biancocelesti after a Ciro Immobile opener, but they roared to a comeback in the second half, netting twice to secure all three points in front of their home fans.

It wasn’t entirely a positive evening for Lecce, however, as Umtiti and Banda were both reportedly subject to racist chants coming from a section of the Lazio supporters during the first half of the match, forcing the stadium announcer to warn that further abuse would lead to a suspension of the match.

The 2018 World Cup winner was visibly emotional after the chants and Banda was equally shaken. The insulting chants seemingly continued after the announcement but was drowned out by the Lecce fans, who loudly chanted the French defender’s name in support.
