Ukrainian singer Kateryna Pavlenko and Italian-Brazilian Gaia performed a special version of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ before kick-off ahead of tonight’s Juventus–Inter match.
Pavlenko is the lead singer of band Go_A, who represented Ukraine at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
The players lined up together to watch and applaud the performance, with Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny – whose wife is Ukrainian – fighting back tears.
Both women were dressed all in white as they sang almost acapella in the centre-circle of the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin.
While many Serie A clubs have taken initiatives to raise funds and help those in Ukraine following the Russian invasion, Juventus went above and beyond by sending two buses including their medical staff to bring circa 80 refugees from the border to safety in Italy.
They were mostly women and children fleeing the war.
