UEFA have announced ‘disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus for a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework’ following the Super League controversy.

This statement means the investigation by the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors has been concluded.

The next step is to see what disciplinary proceedings are taken, which could be anything from a fine to exclusion from UEFA tournaments for one or two years.

“Following an investigation conducted by UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors in connection with the so-called ‘Super League’ project, disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC for a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework,” read the statement.

“Further information will be made available in due course.”

Of the clubs who signed up to the Super League, only Juve, Real Madrid and Barcelona have since failed to distance themselves from the project.

The others – including Inter and Milan – signed deals with UEFA ruling themselves out of any future iteration of the tournament.
