The UEFA has announced charges against Red Star Belgrade for ‘racist behaviour’ and ‘offensive chanting’ during the game against Milan in Serbia.
The Serbian club immediately apologised for the ethnic slur directed at Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the Europa League clash, as the Swede was heckled by Red Star supporters who were not supposed to be in the stadium due to COVID restrictions.

The journalist explained he was called ‘Balija’, an ‘ethnic slur for Bosnians that has been used for years by Serb nationalists as one of the biggest insults’.
The UEFA has charged Red Star with ‘racist behaviour, provocative and offensive chanting, and violation of the UEFA Return to Play Protocol’.
“Following a disciplinary investigation conducted by a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector, disciplinary proceedings have been opened in accordance with the Article 55 (1) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR),” a statement on the UEFA’s official website said.
“Following the incidents which occurred during the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 match between FK Crvena Zvezda and AC Milan (2-2), played on 18 February 2021 in Serbia.
“The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course.”
