Destiny Udogie says his time at Tottenham has given him ‘physicality’ and ‘electricity on the pitch’ but admits Italy initially underestimated Venezuela.

The former Udinese left-back played 90 minutes in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, in Italy’s 2-1 win over Venezuela.

It was a tough game for the Azzurri who saw Gigio Donnarumma save a penalty kick after just three minutes and had to thank Mateo Retegui for a decisive brace. The Genoa striker has now scored four goals in five appearances with La Nazionale.

“It was a complicated match because they are a physical team that fights. This is their strength,” Udogie told Rai Sport.

What was Italy’s problem against Venezuela last night?

“I think the approach. Perhaps we underestimated them a little, but in the end, we made up for it,” the Spurs defender replied.

What are they learning from Luciano Spalletti?

“Like all players, we are adapting and getting to know the coach. We try to learn something new every day.”

What has he learned at Tottenham this season?

“I think it has given me some physicality and a little more electricity on the pitch.”

Udogie concluded the interview with a big smile and said that he absolutely aims to be included in the Azzurri squad for Euro 2024.

The 21-year-old left-back has made three appearances with Italy’s national team, including Thursday’s match against Venezuela. The ex-Udinese star made his senior Azzurri debut against Malta this past October.

2 thought on “Udogie reveals two Tottenham things he brings to Italy”
  1. he was utter crap. I don’t think he should really speak about what he brings. He lacks technique, is error prone and fouls a lot. I’ve yet to see him put in a good proper cross

he hasn’t improved in 2 years. He has youth on his side but i don’t see it with him.

dimarco is lightyears ahead of him.

  2. Sam is right.
Playing because he’s an “athlete.” Frankly, too many “athletes” masquerading as footballers right now.
