Udinese director Cristiano Giaretta says Luis Muriel will return to Friuli, and appears to confirm a Sampdoria move collapsed over a price disagreement.

Muriel had been on the verge of joining the Blucerchiati when his medical evaluation flagged up an issue which would require three weeks on the sidelines.

The deal was later cancelled, amidst rumours that Samp had asked for a discount on his transfer fee, and Giaretta appeared to confirm that hypothesis.

“It happened simply because the recovery time we had estimated for the player was different to that of Sampdoria,” the sporting director explained.

“We took note of that and brought the player home. We’ve communicated the news to him, now I’ll wait for him here and we’ll talk in person.

“We’re here for him, we’ve evaluated his mental condition, we’re not naive. We have things under control.

“Will he be available for Napoli in the Coppa? We’ll have to see, because the player has not trained this week.

“Andrea Coda? Yes, he’s back too. He’s a serious professional who will help us.”
