Udinese boss Andrea Sottil says Destiny Udogie wasn’t called up for the game against Milan because of muscle problems.

The Italian starlet is said to be close to joining Tottenham who would leave him on loan at the Dacia Arena after completing his signing.

Il Corriere dello Sport reported this morning that Udinese could have snubbed the 19-year-old as he’s expected to undergo his medical with Antonio Conte’s side on Sunday.

However, Udinese boss Sottil claimed that the promising wing-back is dealing with a muscle injury, so he was not available for today’s Serie A opener with the Rossoneri.

“Udogie has a muscle problem, so he was not called up because he has been training separately from the team,” he said at a post-match press conference attended by Football Italia at San Siro.

“We decided not to make him come here. The club is in charge of transfers, so he could either stay here [for the rest of the season] or leave.”

Udogie is the most prolific defender in Europe’s top five leagues in 2022 having scored five goals since the start of the year.

Udinese suffered a 4-2 loss to Milan in their debut Serie A game today.
